Why Recycle?First, it’s the LAW. Section 138-11 of the Borough Code regulates recycling in the Borough. The Borough is home to 1,296 residents based on the 2020 Census data. Because the Borough’s population does not exceed 5,000, the Borough is not mandated under Pennsylvania’s Act 101 to provide a curbside recycling program for its residents. Although not a mandated community, the Borough has voluntarily implemented a comprehensive collection and recycling program that includes refuse collection and residential recycling. The program continues to expand as contracts renew and new opportunities for services are identified. The current contract expires at the end of 2023 when the Borough will be able to rebid with new guidelines.
There are also several appealing reasons. Why send something to a landfill if it can be reused? Recycling saves money and resources. Reducing trash lowers disposal costs. There are also companies that buy recyclable material which helps offset the cost of compliance. The State of Pennsylvania has established a recycling goal of 35%. By continuing to recycle you are helping to protect the environment…thank you!Now, you know recycling is the LAW and recycling has some appealing features.

Home RecyclingWhitetail Disposal is the Borough’s contracted service provider for trash and recycling. The following materials may be set out in the recycling bin provided by the contractor:
- Glass- Clear, green, and brown glass is accepted. Do not recycling dishes, light bulbs, drinking glasses, Pyrex, ceramics or window glass.
- Cans- Include aluminum, tin, and bi-metal cans. Do not recycle foil trays, scrap aluminum, or aluminum foil.
- Plastics- Include #1 through #7 plastics. (plastics are marked on the bottom of the container in a triangle made of arrows-indicated in the arrows would be a #1 through #7 or marked with the initials PET or HDPE)
- Newspaper- Included with the recycling of newspaper print would be any glossy print, junk mail, magazines, phone books, office/copy paper. Cardboard is acceptable.
- Cartons: Food and beverage cartons such as milk, juice, soup, broth, etc. can be recycled

Bag up your items and leave them on your porch; or, leave them inside your door and tell CMC to ring your bell when they arrive. Commercial & Institutional Recycling
Borough businesses are required to recycle approved materials generated from their business. Those materials at a minimum should include:
- High grade office paper
- Aluminum cans
- Corrugated paper
Businesses are also encouraged to recycle plastic and glass containers as provided by their hauler.
Household Hazardous Waste (HHW)Montgomery County runs a Household Hazardous Waste and Old Computer Collection program once a month from April through October each year. Visit http://www.montcopa.org/index.aspx? for a comprehensive list of qualifying materials.
Montgomery County no longer does regularly scheduled electronics collections but from time to time special collection events are brought to our attention. ELECTRONICS RECYCLINGTechnology Recycling Map. The map allows users to enter a zip code, and then displays the closest technology recycling centers to that zip code. By law, Trash Haulers are prohibiting from collecting household electronics such as televisions, computer screens printers, computers, and other technology driven items. Occasional Electronics Collection Dates are scheduled; generally Skippack Township hosts one every May.
MATTRESSESIn an effort to increase awareness about recycling across the US Tuck created a guide to help combat the problem of mattress disposal. At this point over 15 to 20 million mattresses are disposed of annually and far too many of them end up in landfills or even just on sidewalks since not all have enough knowledge and understanding on what to do with an old mattress.
